Dustin Barlow

Dustin Barlow

Dustin was born and raised in San Diego county. He has been a member of the music community since elementary school....Was section leader and drum major his senior year of high school. Right out of high school Dustin trained and worked in the field of pianos including everything from tuning and minor repair to full rebuilds. After a few years he attended local community colleges and worked as a music and marching band instructor for local schools. Dustin’s band instrument repair career started in 2005 when he decided to attend Keyano College’s BIR program. At the time, this 2 year program was the most comprehensive in North America for those wanting to learn the craft. The program taught the basics for repairing all wind instruments from flutes and piccolos all the way down to tubas and sousaphones.

In 2006, Dustin joined the Bertrand’s Music family as a repair technician. Since then, he has worked his way up to shop manager at the San Marcos location. Dustin is an accomplished repair tech in many aspects of wind instruments but truly enjoys working on trumpets and trombones. It takes many years to develop a good feel for how brass moves and reacts and he has been working on brass instruments for 14 years now. Anything from small dents to large holes or broken solders and stuck valves or slides, he can handle it. Custom parts fabrication is also a challenge that Dustin enjoys. He is capable of making a new part from scratch that is no longer commercially available.
